Topics around infection include clinical and epidemiological aspects of communicable diseases, laboratory diagnosis of infections, characterisation of infective agents by molecular techniques and the study of transmission patterns of pathogens in institutional and community settings. The International Union against Sexually Transmitted Infections (IUSTI) mourns the passing of Dr Ronald Campbell Ballard (1946–2026), a pioneering scientist, educator, and global leader in sexually transmitted infection research. His work in southern Africa, the UK, and with the US CDC transformed STI control, guided policy, and inspired generations. Dr. Ballard was an associate professor of the Southern African Journal of Epidemiology and Infection, the precursor of SAJID. Read the full IUSTI tribute here. |

Starting in November 2025, AOSIS will begin using CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) authorship contribution statements for all new submissions and acceptances. Published articles reflecting CRediT statements will appear from 2026. Guidance is available under the Author Guidelines: Formatting Requirements, and all contributions should be disclosed in the Authorship, Disclosure Statements, Copyright, and License Agreement Form (Cover Letter) at submission or the Authorship Change Request Form.
